9th International Conference  8-10th September 2008

In the style of previous conferences this one covered topical and controversial issues concerning the
actions and adverse effects of drugs used to control chronic inflammatory conditions and pain.  Among
the issues that have been of recent concerns are:

The cardiovascular, hepato-renal and gastro-intestinal reactions of the coxibs and the "knock-on"
effects to safety considerations of the traditional NSAIDs
.

Whether traditional NSAIDs are in fact as good as coxibs and what place the coxibs have in the short-
and long-term therapy of rheumatic diseases

The use of NSAIDs in prevention of chronic inflammatory diseases, various cancers, Alzheimer's disease
and other neurodegenerative conditions and the inflammatory mechanisms of these conditions and
important therapeutic issues such as when to use NSAIDs and which drugs should be employed in prevention
of these conditions.

On this occasion the conference was a Festschrift in honour of Kim Rainsford who, with colleagues and
collaborators, has been organiser of the Inflammopharmacology Conference series since its inception in
1982.  The first day of the conference as the Festschrift featured contributions from Kim's colleagues, past and present.
